We try as much as possible to get out into the community to promote the adoption of rescued dogs. We fundraise, do adoption events, and show that there are some really great dogs that wind up homeless due to circumstances beyond their control. Keep up here with all the events we do and join us for the next one!

We’ve been invited to participate in Dogtoberfest this year in The Domain, October 23, 2010! Last year we volunteered our time for the even and this year we applied to be one of the participating groups and we have been selected. This is great news because it means that we will receive a portion of the proceeds, along with the other participating rescue groups. So, please mark your calendars to come out and see us this Fall...there will be a silent auction, costume contest, and demonstrations. We had a lot of fun walking around and visiting all the vendors and rescue groups last year and we hope you’ll enjoy it too...stop by and see us!

Last weekend we went to Dog Day Afternoon (but I forgot to take a photo - doh!)...we love to get visitors and this is also a great time to stop by with a dog you’ve adopted from us so we can love on them! Although we’re happy for him, we miss them too!

Something you are feeding your dog could be causing serious health affects. Go to your pet food storage area immediately and check the labels. If you have any chicken jerky treats (or really any pet food items at all) that are labeled as Made in China, please throw them away and do not feed them to your pets again. There are many claims for and against these items, with both the companies claiming safety and pet owners with countless stories of dogs becoming ill and not surviving. I know you may think...”well I buy my treats from my pet store, which sells only high quality items”...well, I thought the same thing until I checked the bag and sure enough, they were made in China. Being distributed in the US does not make them safer. Please err on the side of caution and buy only items that are made in the U.SA. until this is resolved.

Everyone brought a dog for mingling, but instead of running around playing, they just end up begging for food or trying to climb into their people’s laps...toy breeds (eye roll :).

We also tried to brainstorm some fundraisers...Spring and Summer can be a little harder to come up with something that people would be interested in buying or participating in without the holiday. Some ideas that we are kicking around are an event with the Texas Rollergirls, a change to the content of our calendar (think firemen with little dogs) and braving the heat of the Summer to sell water on the corner of a busy intersection in town again...whatever it takes!

Santa Photos were Saturday, December 12th and we had a great time seeing some of the adopted dogs again! We had two new arrivals to the group that were transferred from another rescue who got their photos with Santa as well. We sold calendars, goodies, and split up all the leftovers to oink out on. In total we raised almost $500. Can’t wait to see you all again next year!
